Deidre's back from the gym. She and Alicia worked out this morning. Is it bragging to say that both women are really looking good--no, it's not bragging if they can do it, and as they'd say in Pierre Part, "Podnah, dey can doo it!"
The weather continues cold and windy. I had to take the garbage to the street last night and, using my best South Louisiana thinking, I strode out in moccasins with no socks, jeans and a cotton bathrobe. A guy dressed in balaclava, button down tweed cap, a long heavy coat, boots and gloves was walking his dog and we met at the end of Deidre's and my driveway. There was a frosting of snow on his coat and cap.
"Kind of windy tonight," he said. His skinny, short haired mix-breed tugged on the leash, trying to pull along his master. I suspect if the dog could talk, he would have told his companion to talk in the morning; that he was cold and wanted to curl up in front of a fire.
Certain that the dog had the right idea, I didn't answer the man's attempt at being friendly. My mouth was numb. I turned and carefully walked up the icy drive and through the backdoor. My cotton bathrobe's attempt at shielding me from the wind would have been judged pitiful if anyone else were dumb enough to be outside. Once back inside the house, I went upstairs for a change into jeans and boots. Maybe not with a tux, but with snow boots there is lots to be said for heavy white socks. I slipped on my leather jacket that weighs a good twenty-five pounds, and pulled my tweed cap over my scarf which I tied over my ears. Taking the garbage to the street just isn't supposed to so closely resemble an Arctic rescue mission. But, by God, I felt proud when I heard the trash truck picking up our refuse this morning. I didn't look, but it would be a good bet that none of the garbage men were bare-headed and wearing a bathrobe.
I'm thinking about sending money to the Gingrich campaign. Non. non, fou! I don't want him to win. But I think he would be a repeat of Goldwater. Obama would look at least sane in comparison. Dems would control both houses of congress and most governorships and state houses after an Obama--Gingrich election. Go, Newt, go! I don't imagine the few bucks I could send him would make a difference but one never knows, do one.
Deidre is enjoying her management classes. One of her teachers recently wrote her an encouraging note. She'd already gotten praise from another. I don't know how many profs are involved in her program, but, the way the classes are set up, there can't be many more than two. And, as everyone knows, it's better to have two happy profs, than a half dozen scowling ones.
Everyone cross your fingers. Alicia is going back for a second job interview. She could well be employed by week's end.
Thanks for coming by my blog. I hope you're loved and happy.
